Greenport, NY

After 25+ years, the National SCRABBLE Association (NSA) has decided to close its doors, effective July 1, 2013. Hasbro, the game’s owner, has reduced our budget by 65% from last year, which makes it only 25% of what the company spent promoting the game just 5 years ago. We simply feel we cannot continue our efforts effectively without the proper financial support. By the company’s own admission, SCRABBLE specifically, and board games in general, are now a lesser priority under the company’s new business plan.

While this is an unanticipated and disappointing development, we accept the realities of today’s business economy. We are choosing instead to focus on the amazing experience we’ve had over the years promoting the SCRABBLE brand and spreading the word about the world’s greatest game. We sincerely thank everyone who has been a part of the effort.

Currently, the plans for the future of the National School SCRABBLE Program are unclear. Moving forward, Hasbro plans to take over the NSA’s responsibilities internally. Below are the links for specific questions regarding this transition.
